GUIDING PRINCIPLES
Professional development programs sponsored by the Center are guided by the following principles:
TEACHER LEADERSHIP – Programs sponsored by the Center must support educators to assume leadership roles in selecting, developing, and delivering high quality learning opportunities for students.
COLLABORATION - Collaboration leads to higher levels of student achievement. Professional development must provide opportunities for educators to work with each other in professional learning communities to share ideas and reflect on new practices.
STANDARDS – Program goals must also align with standards recognized by educators on the state and national level, allowing for clear, measurable improvement in student achievement and teacher growth.
PARTNERSHIPS – School districts, educators, families, and local associations must participate as strategic partners in school transformation initiatives.
RESOURCES – High quality professional learning can only be achieved with dedicated funding, time, and resources.
TECHNOLOGY – Technology should be integrated into the teaching and learning experience when it enhances learning.
COMMITMENT – There are no quick fixes to school improvement. Sustainable change occurs when the diverse talents and interests of all stakeholders commit to a multi-year plan for improvement.
